This is a great point. Another helpful one along the same lines: I often remind myself of a Jeff Bezos fable — he talks of there being two types of decisions.
- Decisions you can easily reverse.
- Decisions that are more like stepping through a door that, once closed, you can never go back through.
His point is that by far the majority of decisions we need to make are type 1. So we should make those decisions quickly and confidently knowing — as Florendo says— there’ll be opportunities to make other decisions to course correct if needed.
Type 2 decisions should certainly be given deep thought, analysis and consultation…but very rarely do we have a true type 2 decision.
